Safe Environment Training

The Diocese of St. Petersburg Policy for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults requires Safe Environment Program (SEP) Training for all adults who wish to have unsupervised access to and or the care, responsibility, and or supervision of children and youth and vulnerable adults. All employees are required to take this child safety/vulnerable adult training as a condition of employment regardless of said access.



SEP training is also required for all other adults who wish to have unsupervised access to and or the care, responsibility and supervision of children, youth, and vulnerable adults. To read more about the program and its resources, click here to visit the Safe Environment page on DOSP’s website.


How to become Safe Environment Certified:

1. Fill Out a Covered Volunteer Application:

2. Complete the Online SEP Training Course:

  • CLICK HERE to begin the course, be sure to register as a volunteer at Nativity.
  • Upon completion, your certificate will be available under the 'completed training' section. Download your certificate, and either print a copy to return to the Church Office, or attach it to an email to Kathy Damico.
  • For those who are hearing impaired, please follow the instructions below on how to download the transcript from the CMG Connect site so that you can follow along when viewing the video. The transcript is available in both English and Spanish.

3. Complete Level II Background Check:

  • CLICK HERE to make your appointment for fingerprinting ($51.00 is due by credit card to secure an appt.), be sure to register as a volunteer at Nativity. You must schedule an appointment in order to be fingerprinted.
  • Bring your confirmation email to the appointment.
  • Nativity will receive your clearance directly from the DOSP.


Remember, both the online course and fingerprinting must be completed in order volunteer at the church in the capacities outlined above. Your SEP Training and Level II Background Check will be valid for five years. Thank you for helping to keep our children and vulnerable adults safe!
